Cranioplasty Operation Update - Wed, April 7th - Day 51

Today we unexpectedly found out that the neurosurgery team from the original hospital decided to move forward with Brian's cranioplasty (replacing the skull cap that was removed on Feb 15th). I found out around 2pm and he was transferred by 5pm. The ISP family escorted the ambulance again πŸ’™.

The transfer was seamless. Brian's eyes were wide open for the whole thing. I saw him look toward the EMT and respond to blink commands (yes/no questions with one or two blinks). The EMT said he continued to reply with blinks during the transport - and while it could be coincidental, he was convinced they were intentional responses. I got to see one of them, and I definitely felt like it was different than what I've seen so far!

As for Brian's surgery -- more than likely it will happen this Friday. The neurosurgeon reviewed his recent CT scans and believes Brian will need to have a shunt put in (which is a drain from the brain to the stomach to help his brain drain fluids). This is common with head injuries and would not effect his quality of life. With that said, I'm still praying he won't need it. He will have his evaluation with the neurosurgeon tomorrow.

Please pray with me for the doctor's wisdom & discretion, a smooth, seamless operation & for Brian's continued stability throughout (and for him not to need the shunt) - and of course my ultimate prayer, for him to wake up (soon) & make a full recovery. I know God hears us the first time we ask, but I pray this relentlessly.

While this was a sudden change in the plan, we're thankful this is procedure is happening pre-rehab stages (and pre-consciousness). This will inevitably change the timeline for rehab, which is all TBD based on how things go in the days ahead. He'll be in the hospital likely through the weekend, back to the acute care facility to recover a few days, and then to rehab once cleared.

I've prayed for the timing of his transfer to rehab to be in the perfect window of time where he has the most opportunity to benefit from those therapies. The transfer has been delayed several times now, and I'm taking that as God answering our prayers to have that timing be perfect, when Brian is ready.

"The vision will still happen at the appointed time.
It hurries toward the goal.
It won't be a lie.
If it's delayed, wait for it.
It will certainly happen,
It won't be late."
-Habakkuk 2:2-4

"Blessed is she who has believed that he Lord would fulfill his promises to her!"
