Successful Surgery! April 9th - Day 53

Today was a GOOD day!

Thank you all for your prayers, Brian's cranioplasty went smoothly, his external drain (EVD) was successfully placed and vitals are stable! He was on full support (ventilator) during the operation and transitioned back to oxygen only immediately after with no problem! Surgeon said we could expect to notice him waking from anesthesia tonight or tomorrow given his neurological state, but his eyes were open by 2pm! He looks so awesome (and it's also obviously so nice to see him back to 'normal' with his skull back in place). When we left this evening his ICP was 6 (which is perfect! we want it 10 or under to let us know his brain is working everything out on it's own)!

We are so relieved & thankful! Thank you God for your continued provision, protection & timing with Brian's healing and recovery!

I'm only finishing sentences with exclamation points tonight! We're excited and expecting great things from here for Brian's come back! Goodnight!

"The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him."
-Nahum 1:7

  15. This is great news. I have been following been following Brian and your journey closely since the incident. The story is inspiring and I know he is truly on the path to recovery. With what is obviously such an amazing support staff, it doesn't seem like he has much of a choice!

I never met Brian, but he was on the same cross country team I was on just a year prior. Our paths took us in different directions, but ultimately to the same calling. I am an officer with San Diego PD and my heart aches for the trials you all must endure.

Best wishes to my brother from a different cloth!

  18. Continued prayers and good vibes for Brian and yourself. Brian certainly picked wisely when he found his way to you. Your love for him is obvious to a distant stranger. I know you will let nothing get in your way to help Brian get through this. We are here to support you both through this unexpected journey. Don’t forget to take care of you too;)
