3/16 & 3/17 Updates

I missed updating this yesterday, so I'll do my best to summarize updates below for Tuesday & today:

  • Brian's PT educated me on the importance of 'brain rest' - which is basically giving him rest between stimulation (talking, music, movement, etc). So 5-10min of stimulus & then rest time for his brain to not be overwhelmed. So thankful to have that knowledge now!
  • Brian's lungs are looking/sounding healthy & he's responded well to the nebulizer treatments for the deflated part of his lung, so as of 10am this morning, he has been weened off of the ventilator and breathing through the trach collar only (and successfully so far - all vitals are very stable). GO BRIAN! Let's pray he can maintain that strength to continue breathing on his own in the days ahead & eventually reduce the size of the trach hole (which would be the next step in the weening / independent breathing process).
  • Follow up CT scan & EEG were done this morning/afternoon. Still waiting for results. Let's pray those come back with nothing new, reduced swelling/blood (and God willing, miraculous results).
  • Visible swelling of his head appears to have come down since last week. We'll see if the scans show that to be true!
  • Beard update: coming in real thick! Our bearded friends would be impressed!
  • *As of 4:30p: Dr called and said from a quick glance, the edema swelling has in fact reduced some and same with the ventricle swelling (but she is going to have the other dr's review more thoroughly and give me a full update tomorrow - PTL (praise the Lord!!!)
Keep praying for our guy, B Frank! He is strong & fighting!

  10. I have worked as a nurse for 37 years and have seen many patients with TBI but I have never seen a spouse who is so loving dedicated and full of faith for her husband. I pray for you both ever day and look for to hearing that Brian wakes up smiles and tells you thank you and that he loves you! God Bless You!
